Slowly Improving Weather Conditions

As Major Storm Departs to the East

Our powerhouse major storm is sitting out to the east and making slow but steady progress to the east. This monster storm left up to 2 feet or more of snow across areas from Delaware to Southeastern New England. We still have to wait for the upper trough to complete its passage and as a result we are still seeing leftover backside snows and that will continue into this afternoon. Northerly winds will eventually dry those leftover snow bands out and by mid to late afternoon it should be done. Strong winds continue. We saw wind gusts of 70 to 80 mph earlier today near Eastern Long Island and offshore. Winds will slowly begin to ease as the storm moves away and the gradient begins to relax some tonight and Tuesday. Temperatures today will likely hold in the low to a few mid 30s.

Skies tonight should clear out tonight with most lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Gusty winds will continue tonight into Tuesday but well off their peaks of today. Tuesday will see some sunshine giving way to arriving clouds. We the sun and a little luck high temperatures should be able to reach into the lower 40s.

Fortunately when we have major storms like this one, the atmosphere is basically out of gas so things should calm down for awhile. We do have a couple of weather systems to deal with but they look tame by comparison. The first is a low diving southeast from the Great Lakes into Eastern Canada with a trailing cold front. That might bring a few snow or even a few rain showers Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

We should see weather conditions improve during Wednesday with clouds giving way to some sun after some early morning preciptation. Highs will reach the low and middle 40s. Thursday we will cloud up again as another weather systems swings east into the lower Ohio Valley and then passes just to our south. This could bring the chance for snow or rain late Thursday into early Friday. Right now this weather system looks to be minor in nature and not a big issue.
