We are still waiting for a wave of low pressure to our south on last night’s cold front to clear the Delaware coast and move out to the northeast. There is dry air coming in on the backside of this low and you can see on the satellite picture dry air as moved across much of Pennsylvania and Western NY. Once the wave gets far enough east later this evening skies should clear out rather quickly and we are on our way to a nice weekend.

REGIONAL RADAR

The regional radar as well as the local radars show rain over South Jersey south into Virginia moving eastward with the area sliding offshore. This rain is not moving northward. We are on the edge of it right now and before too long the rain should be gone on both the regional and local radars.

With skies clearing over night it cools off and the humidity continues to nosedive. Temperatures will bottom in the 60s along the coast and in normally warmer urban centers but most everywhere else will hit lows in the 50s overnight. Then it is on to a beautiful day of sunshine Saturday with a nice northerly to northeasterly breeze and highs that in most places won’t get out of the 70s.

Sunday we have some minor issues to contend with. There is going to be an upper air disturbance overhead but a rather weak one. The flow will be come more onshore (more northeast to east) and this brings in a little bit of moisture along with a touch of atmospheric instability. Look for partly sunny skies but the amount of clouds will vary from place to place. There probably will be more cloud cover along coastal areas and less inland. There is the outside chance of a brief isolated sprinkle but I really think that on the whole it should be ok. Highs on Sunday will be in the cool low to mid 70s.

We will be also watching a low that is off the Florida east coast that has become better organized today and the National Hurricane Center says will likely become a tropical depression over the weekend. This system if it were to become a tropical storm is likely to track northeastward off the Carolina shore line and stay offshore given the upper flow that is forecast along the East Coast on Monday.

There is a weakness in the flow along the East Coast thanks to that upper low over the Gulf of Maine. It should provide an alley way for any system to move out to the east. If it does develop it may actually help to keep things dry here into Tuesday though the onshore flow will likely mean more clouds on Monday. HIghs Monday will be just in the low to mid 70s. We may still be sandwiched in between the low to the south, a high to the northeast and a cold front to the west until perhaps later Wednesday when the front approaches. Tuesday look for clouds with highs in the 70s and maybe the chance for a few showers. Warmer and more humid conditions will move in by Wednesday with the chance for some showers and thunderstorms with the next cold front.
