Showery Rains Today Into Tuesday Nice Second Half of the Week

Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico has moved up the east coast and that has come faster than models were advertising late last week. This has put us in an area of showery rains for today. The southerly flow will last into Tuesday as an upper trough and cold front move east and eventually pass offshore. Rainfall amounts will be spread out over the course of two and a half days or so and that is good news allowing the rain to soak nicely into the ground, easing the drought conditions further.

Rainfall amounts of the course of the next few days will be on the order of about 3/4 of an inch to some areas getting about an inch and a quarter. There will be some heavier downpours in the mix and that means there will likely be some variability. Some places will get more than others. Temperatures today will make things feel very tropical with highs in the 70s to near 80 degrees in most places and the humidity will be high thanks to the tropical moisture and of course the rainfall.

There will be some showers overnight but by morning it is likely that the showers will be offshore leaving us with a warm and humid Monday with changeable skies and maybe a few breaks of sun. The humidity levels will remain high though and highs will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s depending on how succesful the sun is.

The cold front is going to move through Monday night or early Tuesday morning with a few showers and possibly a thunderstorm overnight lasting into early Tuesday morning. At this point the showers will pull out as winds turn northwest and we start the road to some slow improvement. Look for decreasing clouds Tuesday afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

Dew points will being to drop sharply with a northwest flow Wednesday into Thursday. High pressure will be building into the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states both days covering us with blue skies and sunshine.  Wednesday highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Thursday the core of the dry air mass will bring another day of lots of sunshine and highs in the 70s with very low humidity. Models begin to diverge a bit for Friday as the GFS wants to bring up a developing low off the Southeast Coast though it kicks it out to the east before it gets here. This may produce some cloud issues. The European on the other hand overwhelms the east with high pressure keeping our weather nice Friday and into next weekend. We will lean optimistic at this early stage of the game.
