Showery Rains Possible Today Higher Chance Showers Thunderstorms

Severe Weather Friday Night Into Saturday

We are still not done with dealing with showery rains. Some thunderstorms will be coming into the mix today. Friday the risk will be higher and with very warm and humid conditions we will be talking about the possibility of isolated severe thunderstorms especially from New York City south and east. This is due to a strong storm system moving from the Dak0tas to the Great Lakes and eventually reaching Southeastern Canada and New England over the weekend.

Saturday across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England a second stronger cold front will move through with the front exiting offshore around midday. Showers and thunderstorms are possible Saturday morning and the risk for severe weather is higher. The Storm Prediction Center has a “slight risk” or a 15 percent change for severe thunderstorms in the mix and a marginal risk for isolated severe thunderstorms as you head north into Upstate NY and Western and Central New England.

WEATHER RADAR

Today is about another round of showery rains developing midday through this evening and there could be a heavier thunderstorm in the mix. Heavy rain is the bigger risk today and some local flash flooding is possible in some areas, much like what happened yesterday. The ground is saturated for the most part and the threshold for flash flooding is low.

Temperatures are going to heady higher today as most highs will be in the 70s and areas in Southern New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania will be in the mid to upper 70s. Friday we will likely see higher temperatures and higher dew points so ti will be rather humid. Temperatures Friday will be in the upper 70s and lower 70s. Some sun is possible early on before showers and thunderstorms develop later in the afternoon and evening.

We can see the two weather fronts moving through. One Friday evening and the stronger second one Saturday morning but we are back to a set up where weather systems are moving along from west toeast. The second front should clear the coast around midday and we could see some improvement Saturday afternoon and evening. Most highs Saturday will be in the 70s to around 80 degrees or so.

The passage of this weather front will transition our weather to a cooler than normal weather pattern for all of next week. During Sunday you can expect breezy conditions on gusty northwest winds. There will be some sunshine but due to the cold unstable air over the Northeast, another shower or two can’t be ruled out. Sunday highs will be in the 70s. Monday Tuesday and Wednesday of next week will be cooler than average days with some sunshine. Highs will be in the upper 60s to mid 70s each day. Weather models are focusing on a storm system bringing a soaking rain and wind late in the week and into the early part of the Memorial Day holiday weekend so we will be watching model developments very carefully in the coming days.
