Wet Snow Threat Saturday, Cold Dry Sunday
A cold front will be approaching with showers and thunderstorms ahead of it today. The main area will move through here from late morning until this evening. We have the potential for some heavy downpours from some of the thunderstorms, however at this point it doesn’t look like a serious severe weather threat. Satellite loop shows a storm system moving across the lower Great Lakes and heading into the northeast. Area wide rainfall looks to be on the order of three quarters of an inch to an inch and a quarter of rain.

Radars both regionally and locally are getting busy with showers and some thunderstorms developing. Movement of the rain area is mostly to the northeast. Once the front passes there could be some lingering showers during the evening. Temperatures should rise toward 60 before the front passes. Then temperatures will fall off later tonight.

Friday will be a transition day to colder air and temperatures will be cooler. Highs Friday will be in the lower 50s on average and then settle in the 30s Friday night. This sets the table for Saturday as low pressure drops southeast from the Great Lakes and redevelops off the Delaware coast. Temperatures will be borderline cold in most areas so for now we are thinking that there will be some rain or wet snow across the area. However at the moment accumulations will probably be confined to elevated areas more than anywhere else. Since the bulk of the precipitation falls during the day, it would be hard pressed to accumulate on most surfaces. The structure of the system and the amount of moisture available, in my view, limits anything serious from happening. Sunday will cold and dry with sunshine and highs just into the 40s. Much warmer weather moves in for Monday and Tuesday of next week. Tuesday’s highs should be in the 60s to near 70.
