Showers On & Off Into Tonight, Dry Saturday Cloudy Wet At Times Sunday Into Tuesday

It is another round of cold front warm front issues for areas from Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. The warm front as of midday seems to be stuck around NYC with areas to the northeast in the upper 50s and lower 60s with cloudy skies and a south southeast wind. On the other side of that line is a south southwest wind and temperatures that have reached into the low 70s with some breaks of sunshine. Both sides are however fighting a large amount of cloud cover either way will do so for the rest of today and into tonight.

Regional and local radars are showing showers, The bulk of the rain in Upstate NY & New England represent the low center to the north and now we have the trailing cold front. Showers and some thunderstorms are showing up with three lines of activity moving to the east. Obviously it doesn;t rain straight through this afternoon or into tonight. Once the cold front passes we should be done with showers. Weather conditions will improve by morning.

There is a clearer picture developing regarding the weekend and next week. The picture looks like a rather dismal one. Enjoy your Saturday as we should have sunshine with some clouds arriving later in the day. Highs will be in the upper 60s ot lower 70s in most places. Tonight’s cold front stalls out and it appears that  we will be dealing with a series of waves. We also have a trough swinging southeast from the Great Lakes creating its own wave and rain for us to deal with.

Starting Saturday night and lasting into Tuesday most of us will be dealing with waves of rain. The first area overnight Saturday into Sunday morning gets to about NYC and Southern New England as far as the northern extent of it. Then another wave of rain comes through later Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. A break develops late at night into Monday morning. However low pressure from the wave in the Plains on the map above winds up swinging across the Great Lakes and a low develops along the coast. More rain is likely Monday afternoon and lasting into at least part of Tuesday.

While all this is happening we will be under an onshore flow which means temperatures are going to have a tough time getting out of the 50s and there will be some stretches of time here late Monday into Tuesday where temperatures in many areas will be stuck in the 40s. It is a miserable pattern we are in being driven by blocking across the North Atlantic and a jet stream in Canada and the US that is much further south of normal.

This sizes up the pattern for the beginning of next week. Later next week could see more energy coming down out of Canada as the upper pattern continues to favor a trough of low pressure in the Eastern US and a ridge of high pressure in the West with above average pressures continuing across the polar region. It is not a weather pattern that is conducive to warm weather other than the odd day here in there in between cold fronts and only then if the set up is favorable. No important changes in the pattern are forecast for the short term at least.
