Showers Later Tuesday Into Early Wednesday
Ahead of Windy Cold Thanksgiving Weekend
The holiday shortened work week begins with dry weather and sunshine. We still have the northwest flow from Canada and that is keeping some cloud cover around but mostly to the north and northeast in Upstate New York and New England. Today will be no worse than partly sunny as high pressure moves offshore. High temperatures will be mostly in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Radars have turned quiet across the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states and there are no rain or snow issues today or tonight.

WEATHER RADAR
While skies are clear tonight, colder inland and rural locations will see temperatures drop into the 20s while warm urban centers will be closer to 40 degrees for lows. Weather conditions will deteriorate Tuesday as a cold front nears. This front is producing lots of thunderstorms and severe weather today across the Central Gulf States and that heads into the Southeast US Tuesday.
Rain and showers from this system will arrive around midday, a little sooner in Eastern Pennsylvania and a little later in Southern New England. Showery rains will last into the first part of Tuesday night before the cold front passes offshore around or after midnight, bringing showers to and end. Temperatures Tuesday will reach the middle to upper 50s for highs.
Wednesday will see a storm strengthening in Eastern Canada and a secondary weather front that will be moving through later in the day. That front will mark the leading edge of much colder air so there could be another shower or two as the front passes Wednesday afternoon and evening. Temperatures Wednesday will likely be on the mild side with in and out clouds and sun. Highs will be in the mid 50s to around 60 before the cold air arrives.
Winds will increase Wednesday night and it will turn colder. Most lows will be in the mid 30s to around 40 Thursday morning. Wind is going to be an issue Thanksgiving day as the pressure gradient tightens up. Low pressure in Atlantic Canada strengthens and we have a strong high in the Upper Midwest. All this adds up to winds gusting over 30 mph at times during Thursday and there might be some odd gusts closer to 40 mph in the afternoon. It will be dry and cold though with some sunshine and highs Thanksgiving Day will only be in a range of 40 to 45 degrees and we will be down in the 20s to near 30 degrees by Friday morning.
Friday will be even windier and we could be near wind advisory criteria with gusts of 40 mph or higher at times from the northwest. It will also be rather cold with highs only in the upper 30s and lower 40s even with a fair amount of sunshine. Over the weekend the wind will ease, the cold will abate and we will bring in the chance for showers during Sunday as another cold front approaches to end the holiday weekend.
