Showers Friday Morning Night Dry Saturday Chilly Rain Sunday

We are moving right along with a warm front setting up to our south. High clouds continue to increase as well as a flow of air off the ocean. The satellite loop shows two short wave troughs moving along in the flow. The southern stream system over the lower Mississippi Valley stands out with the second one producing clouds and some showers into the Upper Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes. The two streams will phase together as it swings eastward setting us up for two rounds of downpours and possible thunderstorms on Friday. The first area will move through Friday morning around daybreak.

The first area is the warm front which will be moving through tomorrow morning between 3am and 7am. Don’t be shocked if you hear a rumble or two of thunder as the move to the northeast. During the day Friday not much happens other than clouds and passing showers. The second round moves through Friday evening after 5pm with some showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures Friday are a tough call. We could see 70s in Southern New Jersey while 50s to near 60 will be holding from NYC & Northern New Jersey north and east. We have indicated in the red circle the area where the Storm Prediction Center has indicated a marginal risk for severe weather for Friday and that area lies from Southern New Jersey southward. Showers will come to an end from west to east Friday night between midnight and 3am.

Saturday looks dry and breezy thanks to low pressure to the north and high pressure to the south creating a tight pressure gradient. Northwest winds will gust to over 30 mph at times especially along the coast. We should see a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Another weather system is on the way for Sunday as low pressure from the Great Lakes passes by to the south of NYC.

The problem with Sunday will be temperatures because of the low tracking so close to us. Areas north of the low center will be down right cold with highs just in the 40s to near 50 while in Central and South Jersey which are forecast to lie south of the low track, temperatures will reach the 60s. Also areas north of the low will get a chilly rain while areas of the south will likely see clouds and maybe some breaks of sun! Yes that is SNOW that could mix in over elevated areas in the Catskills and into parts of the Middle Hudson Valley.

On to next week where we have more issue to deal with. Monday will be a dry day but another frontal boundary sets up to our south with a weak low moving northeastward. Showers could develop here Monday night and we could see clouds and showers on Tuesday.

There is another low right behind it in Texas and that could bring more clouds and showers head our way. In spite of a ridge building in the East it is not enough. Cool Canadian air and higher pressures to the north will loom large next week which could keep warm air to our south for much of next week. The normal spring issues continue as April ends and May begins.
