Severe Weather Threat New York New Jersey
The Storm Prediction Center has placed our entire region from Southeast Pennsylvania to Southern New England at a slight risk for severe weather later this afternoon and tonight. All the ingredients are there for a severe weather event. I think the primary concern would be heavy rain however there are enough dynamics there to produce potentially damaging winds. With temperatures soaring into the 60s and excellent tropical moisture flow up the east coast coupled with a deep storm just to our west put is square in the warm sector where severe weather is a risk.

There are a few issues regarding today that are specific for Long Island and that is that thunderstorms could arrive around high tide which means that the risk is there for strong winds in the marine area at the same time that high water is being reached. The threat for coastal flooding exists.
