Severe Weather Risk Increases Overnight Pennsylvania to Southern New England

Flash Flood Watch Parts of Northeast Pennsylvania & Northwest New Jersey

SEVERE WEATHER RISK TONIGHT INTO MONDAY AM

The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service has 5 working tornado watches as of 5:30pm Eastern time and it already has been a busy day regarding severe severe in the Southeast US with numerous warnings for severe thunderstorms, flash flooding and tornadoes. The marine layer has even relaxed to some degree in our area along the coast and this has prompted the Storm Prediction center to expand their risk for severe weather tonight placing much of Western New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania at an enhanced risk for severe weather while the rest of the state, the Hudson Valley & NYC are in slight risk with a marginal risk to Long Island and Western Connecticut. In addition Sussex & Warren Counties in  Northwestern New Jersey as well as parts of Eastern Pennsylvania are under Flash Flood Watches

REGIONAL RADAR

Going forward radars are going to get busier to the west but I would not expect much in the way of strong thunderstorms or severe weather to develop until later tonight specifically during the early morning hours of Monday as the front begins to move across Pennsylvania. Until then we have some scattered showers well inland north and west of the coast and this will be the issue for the next several hours. Most areas won’t see much of anything for the time being.

Overnight the front begins to march across to the east as low pressure moves into Upstate NY. You can figure the roughest weather with downpours and possible thunderstorms will be from about 3am to 9am Monday morning from west to east as the line of thunderstorms moves through. After that look for weather conditions to improve however strong gusty northwest winds will develop on the back side of the strengthening low to the north. Leftover clouds should give way to breaks of sunshine later Monday with temperatures in the 60s to near 70.

Severe Weather Risk Into Monday Morning Showers Thunderstorms Tonight

There aren’t any real changes to the outlook for next week. Another major storm is headed for the Plains and then the Great Lakes which means we may have a couple of days of dealing with clouds and some showers or even a period of rain with onshore winds. This will start Tuesday night and carry us into Thursday. Then the next cold front approaches.

Severe Weather Risk Into Monday Morning Showers Thunderstorms Tonight

We might catch a bit of a break Thursday but that warm front looms large with the threat of low clouds. Otherwise we turn to next Friday with another strong cold front, showers and thunderstorms, and the threat for severe weather again. Hopefully weather conditions improve for Easter Weekend but there are no guarantees from the management on this at this stage of the game.
