Severe Weather Risk Eastern Connecticut Eastern Long Island
Severe Weather Risk Eastern Connecticut Eastern Long Island
The Storm Prediction Center has extended the western edge of the risk of severe weather this afternoon to cover the Eastern half of Connecticut as well as touching Eastern Long Island. We have a weak weather front swinging across the area today but the risk for thunderstorms west of NYC is near zero. From NYC east a thunderstorm could develop late this afternoon and evening. We are seeing some specks on the radar at the moment. The area indicated for severe weather has a more primed atmosphere with the increasingly unstable as we go east so we will monitor the situation closely.
In the meantime much of the area is enjoying its fist day of sunshine in quite awhile and temperatures are in the upper 70s to near 80 with some lower 80s in Central New Jersey. Our weather looks mostly dry for Friday and Saturday except that there could be a shower or thunderstorm Friday with the next cold front dropping southward from upstate NY.

The next chance for rain will come late on Sunday and it seems that the next weather system is going to be moving a little further north. This may keep showers out until later in the afternoon or perhaps not until Sunday evening. This then shifts clouds and rain into Monday and Tuesday as low pressure redevelops to our south. There are indications that an onshore flow may lock in for awhile again so the question of whether it clears for the middle of next week is now an issue.
