The Storm Prediction Center has its hands full with a Severe Weather Outbreak Mid & South Atlantic States 6 Tornado Watches As of 2PM and lets not forget the severe thunderstorm watch up for South Florida. So far nothing is in effect in our area however the warm up in the Northeast has been rather aggressive this afternoon with temperatures in the 70s and dew points soaring into the 60s. SPC has increased the risk bringing the marginal risk to the New Jersey NY State line to about NYC & slight risk now reaches into Southern New Jersey & Southeast Pennsylvania.

Radars are beginning to get rather busy with rain in Central & Western Pennsylvania and on the local radars we are beginning to see heavy downpours and thunderstorms developing in Virginia and North Carolina. The precipitation is moving north northeastward and will likely impact areas in Western New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania late this afternoon and evening. Areas to the east will be rain free for the most part into tonight (other than a passing downpour) until the system shifts a little further east overnight and into Saturday morning.

Watch the radar below where we have already had a tornado warning that has come and gone and more warnings of one form or another will start popping up in the next few hours.

We are still anticipating the bulk of downpours and possible thunderstorms overnight into tomorrow morning with the main threat time between midnight tonight and noon Saturday. Rains will taper off and end tomorrow morning by 8am in Western New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania, around noon in NYC and coastal New Jersey and in the Hudson Valley west of the Hudson, and early to mid afternoon across Long Island and Southern New England.

The latest NAM model rainfall shows the banded nature of the heavy rainfall with streaks of 1 to 2 inches in some areas but less than an inch in others if you wind up being in between rain bands. Flash Flood Watches continues from New England southward into the Northern Mid Atlantic and west into Pennsylvania. This includes New Jersey, New York City, Hudson Valley, Long Island & Southern New England.
