Severe Weather Flash Flood & Elevated Tornado Risk Through Thursday
A stationary boundary separating cooler air to the north and hot humid air to the south lies right across Pennsylvania to New Jersey for the next 3 days. As a result we are going to be dealing with disturbances running along that boundary every 24 hours and that leaves us in areas of risk for severe thunderstorms, flash flooding, and even the chance of a tornado or two spinning up. The Storm Prediction Center is indicating a slight risk for severe thunderstorms (15 percent chance) for this afternoon into tonight. In addition we are at risk for localized flash flooding in some heavier thunderstorms should they develop and sit over an area for a period of time.

Humidity levels are rising as dew points reach the low and even a few middle 70s making for a very moist and uncomfortable atmosphere. Showers and a few thunderstorms are on the radar and we can expect to see additional showers and thunderstorms develop later today into this evening. High temperatures will reach into the 80s in most places with some areas in South Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania pushing 90 degrees.
The position of the frontal boundary will be key to the thunderstorm activity going forward as well as impacting temperatures. Overnight we will see very warm and humid conditions and there could be a passing shower or thunderstorm. Lows will be in the 60s to around 70. Wednesday brings another day of very warm and humid conditions with the risk for thunderstorms and severe weather. Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Severe storms could set up a little further south Wednesday.
Thursday will mark the third day in a row of severe weather risk. It is also setting up to be a hot day across most of Eastern Pennsylvania. Daytime heating will take highs to the upper 80s and lower 90s. The third and final disturbance will move through triggering off thunderstorms and the risk of severe weather. The risk for localized flash flooding is on the table each of the three days. Weather conditions should improve Friday as the boundary shifts southward but there is still the risk for thunderstorms Southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey southward. The Labor Day holiday weekend is looking cooler and drier.
