Severe Thunderstorms Flash Flood Risks On A Steamy Saturday
Another round of severe thunderstorms and flash flooding is on the table for this afternoon and evening as the Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the risks to a 15 percent chance for severe weather from Northeast Virginia to Southern New England including New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington DC. The set up today is almost identical to yesterday.
Ahead of all this we have a steam bath across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England with dew points at ridiculous levels of low and middle 70s. Basically you are living inside a warm soaked sponge. The daytime heating will take temperatures to the upper 80s and lower 90s and the humidity just makes it feel worse. An unstable atmosphere will set off thunderstorms during the mid afternoon and the risk will continue through the early evening hours.

Once the storms are done we will have very warm and humid conditions overnight with lows in the low to mid 70s. Sunday we will see high dew points into the early afternoon but we also have another weak trough moving through. Highs Sunday ahead of it will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s. There is the chance for some scattered storms Sunday afternoon however they should be fewer than today and we do not believe there will be any severe weather risk.
Once the trough passes dew points will start to drop later in the afternoon and Sunday night making things a bit more comfortable but that will be short lived. Another trough will be to the west Monday and dew points will start to edge higher. Thunderstorm risk is low however and highs will reach the upper 80s and lower 90s. A higher chance of storms lies ahead of a cold front Tuesday with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 and there is a chance we could see severe weather risk Tuesday afternoon and evening.
