Severe Thunderstorm Risks As Heatwave Continues Through Midweek

Showers and thunderstorms with a weather system moving through New England is bringing storms through this morning. This area of thunderstorms appears to be slowly weakening as it heads southward. The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk for severe thunderstorms today or a 15 percent chance covering Northeast Pennsylvania, Northern new Jersey, the Lower Hudson Valley in NY into Western New England.

Once these thunderstorms play through we should see clouds give way to sunshine however we are going to lose some daytime heating today so we have scaled back the high temperature forecast to low and middle 90s from mid to upper 90s. Westerly winds will keep temperatures relatively uniform for inland areas and the coast as local sea breezes will be confined to the immediate shoreline.

WEATHER RADAR

We are going to leave in the chance that another shower or thunderstorm could pop up this afternoon and evening but for the most part, the bulk of activity is during this morning. Tonight will be very warm and humid with lows in the 70s to around 80 degrees. Monday and Tuesday are setting up to be very hot and very humid days.

Monday will be a very hot day with sunshine. Highs will reach 100 degrees or higher in many inland areas. Most coastal highs will be in the 90s with local sea breezes at the beaches. No thunderstorms are forecast. Tuesday will be a repeat performance of Monday with sunshine and highs again reaching the upper 90s to lower 100s inland and it will be a little cooler along the coast.

Wednesday will be a hot and humid day with highs in the 90s but we will see a cold front drop southward from Upstate NY and New England. Some showers and thunderstorms are likely in the late afternoon and evening as the front passes and winds turn to the east. Wednesday highs will be in the 90s before the front passes and it should be the last day of the heatwave. Thursday will be cooler with clouds and some sun along with an east wind and high temperatures in the 80s.
