Record Highs Thursday Cooling Friday

Record Highs Thursday Cooling Friday

What is remarkable to me this morning is that these are the 8am temperatures for March 10th 2016! It is already in the upper 60s to around 70 everywhere. It would be remarkable enough if these were the daytime highs but for morning temperatures it is ridiculous. You had clouds around overnight and a west southwest breeze which kept temperatures up all night long everywhere.

Today we will see one more round of record highs however there are some changes undeway. There is a cold front with showers developing across upstate New York. That front doesn’t have much ahead of it so we should see sunshine into this afternoon though clouds will be moving into northern and eastern areas. Wind direction again will play a key role in highs as it will be near 80 again inland but much cooler along coastal areas of New Jersey and Long Island. That front sinks southward today and moves through the area tonight. When it comes through there will be a few showers and one or two heavier downpours. You can see the arcing clouds over the Great Lakes and Northeast on the satellite loop.

Regional radars are showing the growing area of showers to the north and west. There are also some echos showing up overhead in a few places but none of that area seems to be reaching the ground this morning that I can see except for what is off the Southeastern New England coast.

Tonight’s temperaetures will hold up in the 60s to near 70 until the front passes through and then drop into the 50s by morning. Friday we should see skies become partly to mostly sunny with highs in the 50s to near 60. The weekend starts with sunshine for much of Saturday with highs in the 50s to around 60.

Sunday we will see clouds increase as an onshore flow develops. This will probably lead to a couple of days of gray skies and occasional rain beginning late Sunday night and lasting into Tuesday. It isn’t anything major. Just a few days of damp dismal conditions seem likely. However we should squeeze out a decent Sunday with sunshine early giving way to arriving clouds and highs in the 50s.
