Record Highs Again Colder Thursday Freezing Rain Inland

We are starting the day much like we did yesterday but the low clouds and fog in some areas seems to be burning off a bit faster. We will see sunshine breaking out in most areas again. Temperatures have no where to go but up and highs will reach the middle 70s in many locations. Even along the coast temperatures should run into the 60s before any sea breeze develops.

There isn’t much happening satellite or radar wise today other than the low clouds this morning that we area waiting to burn off. To the west threre and clouds and rain and also to the northwest where the next frontal boundary is but those showers won’t come close today.

REGIONAL RADAR

We do have a cold front coming in tonight that will shift the winds to the northeast. Temperatures will fall once the front goes by. Then the first in a series of waves of low pressure will move east. With the high to the northwest and cold air draining down from Eastern Canada, temperatures inland north and west of the coast will be cold enough for freezing rain Thursday. The best chances for this will be along and north of Route 80 in Northeastern Pennsylvania and possibly into Northwestern New Jersey, along and north of Route 84 in the Hudson Valley and Connecticut. Note that temperatures in many areas Thursday afternoon will be 30 to 40 degrees colder then they will be this afternoon so it will be quite a change. We will take a closer look at the prospects for freezing rain inland later today. Areas south of the  sections mentioned will see a chilly rain and it shouldn’t really amount to much.

The first batch moves out Thursday night and second follows on Friday which again could be cold enough inland for some freezing rain or sleet. but mostly rain everywhere else. The weekend does not look promising with on and off rain right through Sunday as a series of weather systems move northeastward with lots of Gulf of Mexico moisture.

4 day rain totals should be in the 1 to 2 inch range with 2 to 3 inch rains to the west. This is a 4 day stretch of gloomy weather and weather conditions probably won’t improve much until next Monday. Temperatures over the weekend are likely to be in the 40s and 50s in most places.

All sorts of things are happening in the long range which include a blast of cold for the next 2 weeks across much of Europe and a weather pattern upheaval here on our side of the pond. JOESTRADAMUS has more on this in his latest long range post.
