Rain & Wind Wednesday Into Thursday As Coastal Low Develops Offshore

At least we are going to squeeze out one more nice day before we have to deal with a storm system that will head into Ohio and the redevelop into a coastal storm for later Wednesday and lasting through Thursday. Ahead of this today satellite and radar loops are mostly on the quiet side. We do see high clouds coming into view on satellite loops from thunderstorms and severe weather that will be widespread in the Ohio and Tennessee Valley today. We will have mostly sunny skies for most of the day. Winds are turning more east today so temperatures will be lower. Highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Clouds will increase tonight as low pressure and a weather front move eastward. We have a block in the North Atlantic and that will force this surface low to develop off the Delaware coast later Wednesday and Wednesday night. Across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England Wednesday will be a gloom & doom type of day with cloudy skies and rain developing from west to east. It may take a while for the rain to spread east of New York City and Long Island but it should make it there later in the day Wednesday.

This is a slow moving weather system and it is not going to be in any hurry to leave. The gradient will tighten along the coast so we could see some gusty winds near the immediate coast and gale warnings will likely go up for the coastal waters though I’m not expecting strong winds over inland areas.

As far as rainfall is concerned, we should see rain amounts of an inch and a quarter to an inch and a half through Thursday evening though amounts could go higher in coastal areas as well as inland areas across Pennsylvania where there may be more convection in the mix. As far as temperatures are concerned it will be raw and chilly. Eventually while it is raining, temperatures Wednesday will settle in the upper 40s and lower 50s in most places.

As far as improvement goes, it may be very slow to occur. Friday we will see clouds and showers with highs in the 50s to near 60. Saturday also we be a day of clouds and some showers, though there could be a few breaks of sun, and showers will be less but still around. It gets a little better Sunday though we can’t rule another shower or two out, there should be more of a mix of sun and clouds. Highs over the weekend will start reaching into the 60s. Monday Memorial Day looks to be the best of the 3 holiday weekend days with highs back above 70 and more in the way of sunshine.
