Rain Will Be Gradually Ending Later Today
Well it was nice to see the cheap thrill last night of snow. It was a nice surprise to be driving home in snowflakes though the radar was showing nothing. My theory is that the cold air was shallow but dense enough and the wind off the ocean just sort of made it happen. Either way is was a nice thrill. Even more so was to see a coating of snow even though it was in the low 60s just 24 hours earlier! The air temp was 32-33. So much for the warm ground concept. It really isn’t a factor and shouldn’t be when figuring accumulations. But that is a forecast lesson for another day. Even Cody my English Springer enjoyed it.
Now the storm system is moving through the Great Lakes and warm air is pushing northeast so the wintry conditions are being relieved rather quickly. Temperatures have risen above 32 well to the north of the coast now so the bulk of the wintry weather is over with. You can see on the map below the current temperatures and where it is still below freezing.
Now we will get through the last round of rain this morning and then weather conditions will improve slowly this afternoon. We might see some breaks in the cloud cover late today and skies should partially clear tonight.
Wednesday we will have sunshine with arriving clouds as low pressure comes up along the coast. It is a weak wave and it looks like the precipitation from this will pass to the east. Most highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Then dry and colder weather gradually take over Thursday New Year’s Eve and into New Years Weekend as temperatures trend to normal or even slightly below in some places.
