Rain Moving Northward Slower System Means Gray Rainy Sunday

Some chances in the character of the weather system to the west has led to a slight adjustment in the forecast. The system to the west continues to slow down as does the front that is lifting northeastward through the Mid Atlantic states. This has delayed the arrival of rain by about 4 to 6 hours and that means that the rain will stick around longer. It will depend on your location. Rain is advancing northward and overspreading the area this morning.

The slower movement northward also impacts temperatures keeping them lower. 70s are now going to be confined to areas in Maryland and possibly into Delaware and Southern Pennsylvania. North and east of there across NYC to the Hudson Valley and Southern New England we could see temperatures in the 50s to near 60 for highs.

With everything slower and further south, it means less daytime heating for some. This shifts the risk for severe weather a little further south than indicated by the Storm Prediction Center yesterday. Cooler air to the north also reduces the risk of general thunderstorms.

Once the rain ends in the marginal severe weather risk zone we will likely see some sunshine break out late this morning or this afternoon while those areas further north will likely be in gloom and doom all day.

The week ahead is not shaping up to be a fun one. The realignment of last week’s blocking pattern that left us in a sweet spot is likely to leave us in a sour spot for much of the week. Some showers will continue tonight and Monday in an on and off fashion. Temperatures Monday will be in the 50s everywhere. A slight reprieve is possible Tuesday before we see the chance for showers again on Wednesday. Low pressure will develop to the south leading us to a solid chance for rain Thursday and possibly into Friday. For the most part we are reversing the near perfect weather of last week to gloom and doom for this week with below average temperatures.
