Rain Moving Northeast Winds Increase Tonight Sunday

Watching the satellite loop and radars this afternoon we continue to see rain moving northeast as warm air comes up from the south. The warm front to our south will eventually make it northward and temperatures will rise into the first part of tonight.

Wind Advisories are posted for Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England with a High Wind Warning for Eastern Long Island.

high wind warning

Winds along the coast are picking up a bit from the south with some gusts to 30 mph or more occurring. Those south winds will increase some tonight as low pressure intensifies over upstate New York & Southeastern Canada. Temperatures to the north and west of the coast are struggling a bit this afternoon as the colder to the north tries to hang on.

As the cold front swings east there will be some more downpours and perhaps even a thunderstorm or two before the front moves offshore. Temperatures overnight will hold in the 50s. Then winds shift to the northwest by morning and in some places a bit before, then it will be windy and turning colder with clouds giving way to some sunshine from west to east. Temperatures will fall back into the 40s and winds will gust past 40 mph. Winds will begin to ease Sunday night. Monday will be dry and chilly with some sunshine. Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s.

The next cold front arrives late Tuesday or Tuesday night and there won’t be much with it. Look for sunshine and just a few clouds on Tuesday with highs reaching the mid to even a few upper 50s. Then it turns colder for Wednesday and Thursday Thanksgiving day. Thanksgiving highs will just be 40 to 45 over much of the area even though there will be a fair amount of sun.

I’m still leaving Thursday and Friday dry even though some models suggest a wave developing off the Southeast coast of the US will move northeast and perhaps skim coastal areas with a cold rain Thursday night into Friday morning. I’m not going to go down that road just yet and I’m leaving things dry for now.
