Rain Gradually Ends Weather Improves

Dry Start Week Ahead

We begin the day an hour shorter with daylight saving time now in effect until next November. It has always been a personal signal to me that spring and summer weather are at hand and indeed this morning with rain and a rather gusty south wind, we can say that the bitter cold weather of this past week is now history. Rains came in overnight and began as sleet and snow in some areas. Now just about everyone is seeing rain but we are also seeing the back edge of the rain nearing the coast on the regional radar.

The weather front responsible for all this is making west to east progress. The rains have already ended across Eastern Pennsylvania and it is now beginning to end across the area. By lunch time much of the rain should be done.

It will dry out this afternoon with temperatures in a rather wide range. Areas in South Jersey for example could see highs reaching into the lower 60s while as you head north across North Jersey to Long Island northward, temperatures won’t make it out of the 40s.

Next week we are going to see some nice mid March weather through at least Wednesday. High pressure settle in the East so that should bring some sunshine for Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures will be reasonable and seasonable with highs into the 50s on Monday and mostly in the 40s to near 50 Tuesday and Wednesday with no major issues other than some passing clouds from time to time.

The next important weather system will head up into Minnesota as a significant rain storm for the Northern Plains. A couple of inches of rain will be moving into an area with record snow cover which spells serious flooding for that area. Here it will be a south southwest flow beginning Thursday. Showers to the west will likely hold off until Friday as that front to the west gets closer to the coast. Depending on clouds and wind direction we could see 60s away from ocean locations at the end of the week.
