I went back to my original first call forecast from 3 days ago for my final call for Monday. The issue will be how fast snow gets in here before the warm air comes in from off the ocean. I was clearly wrong in buying the NAM’s colder view yesterday as low pressure will be riding up the Appalachians. It is unusual to have all this cold air around only to see it warm up and rain but it does happen. Two issues for tomorrow will be the very cold ground which will take some time to warm up. Some freezing rain could continue after temperatures go above freezing until the cold ground catches up. The other issue will be how much snow forms ahead of the change over and that can be problematic. Odds seem to be against a large area of heavier snow so amounts are kept on the low side of the equation. Still there could be lots of slipping and sliding until temperatures rise enough. Inland areas north and west of the big cities could see a significant icing event before temperatures rise into the 40s and 50s on Tuesday.
