We certainly enjoyed a beautiful day of sunshine on Saturday. Now we watch the non tropical low pressure system that was Tropical Storm Nestor move up through the Carolinas tonight. Clouds are beginning to show up in the local area on the satellite view tonight. The brighter white clouds tops are over South Carolina and Western North Carolina up into Southwestern Virginia and that is where the rain is tonight. It is all moving to the northeast and it appears that we will be grazed by this system during the day on Sunday.

While the local radars below are silent we can begin to see the steady rain on the regional radar on the lower left of the view. The rain is moving steadily northeastward. None of this arrives overnight and Sunday morning should start dry over the area.

During the day Sunday low pressure  moves off the Virginia coast with the northern fringe of the rain advancing northeastward. The northern edge of the rain will reach just north and west of NYC and Philadelphia. Somewhat steadier rain will likely fall from Southern New Jersey southward with lighter more nuisance rain making it to areas further north and least to Long Island. Otherwise Sunday will be a cloudy day for the rest of Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England.

Rainfall amounts for Sunday will hinge on how far north the rain gets. It is possible the numbers are a bit overdone north and west of I-95 and they might be a little underdone over coastal and Southern New Jersey. The system is what it is and it will move along and out Sunday night with rain ending from west to east.

As the surface map above shows Monday we will be dry and in between the offshore low and a cold front that will be arriving on Tuesday. Look for some sunshine returning on Monday inland with highs in the mid 60s to lower 70s in some places. Along the coast clouds could be a bit stubborn with an onshore wind and the remnant moisture from the coastal close by. Then Tuesday the front will approach and we will see clouds with showers likely later in the day into Tuesday night. Tuesday’s highs will be in the 60s to near 70.

The coastal low will basically get absorbed by the approaching system and not add to the rain nor will it intensify like the storm did last Wednesday. The front should pass offshore Tuesday night and improving weather conditions will settle in on Wednesday and Thursday with some sunshine both days. Highs will be into the 60s and nighttime lows will be in the 40s with 30s inland.
