PGA Golf Championship Weather Not Perfect But Workable

Yes boys and girls that is the sun that is out there this morning. Finally we have at least put some geographic distance between the lows off the last 3 days that went to our south and the next cold front that is already on the scene in the satellite snapshot above. Preliminary action continues at the PGA Championship in Bethpage NY ( Long Island) today with no weather issues other than some clouds developing and moving through from time to time. Temperatures today should reflexively rise through the 60s and some spots might touch 70 if we get enough sun.

The issue is the flow aloft which is from the northwest so those upstream clouds you see may get into parts of the area today. Much of the nation east of the Rockies this morning is actually doing okay other then the odd flare ups here in there over Florida and a small patchy area in the Tennessee Valley. Meanwhile in New England we are still dealing with lots of leftover clouds as improvement there  comes slowly.

There are no issues today other than patchy clouds mixed with some sunshine. However that next cold front makes its move tonight and it will bring some overnight showers. Another low will develop to our southeast offshore tonight but this should get kicked away rather quickly. Thursday is the 1st round of the PGA Golf Tournament and it should go well. The entire area might see some early morning clouds but we should go partly sunny with highs in the 60s along coastal areas and mostly 70s inland.

We have another cold front set to arrive on Friday which means the chance for showers. The timing right now suggests showers mid morning into the early afternoon before weather conditions improve. Highs will be in the upper 60s to some lower 70s with temperatures held back due to clouds and showers. South Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania could see highs into the upper 70s to near or just over 80 in a few spots. There may be more sun in the mix here.

I’m being cautiously optimistic for the weekend particularly for Saturday which to me looks dry with sunshine and highs in the 70s. The issue for Sunday is that Friday’s cold front stalls to the south and then backs northward. Does it make it into Upstate NY? Does it get hung up just to our south? It would seem to me that the weather system to the west driving all this will be rather far to the west so perhaps its impact here will be minimal and that we won’t see anything worse than partly sunny skies on both days.

Next week we might ( i say might) see a bit of a ridge building in the east and a temporary relaxation of the blocky pattern however I’m very cautious here buying anything too specific. The North Atlantic Oscillation or NAO which measures blocking showed it coming back in a big way later next week. This is where as a forecast we step back a bit and let things play out for the next few days. The block has been unrelenting and its forecast demise has been met with it surging back. It refuses to break down. Remember the trend is your friend though in this case…it is more like your enemy.
