SMALL CHANCE FOR A POP UP THUNDERSTORM

COLD FRONT ARRIVES LATE THURSDAY BREAKS OPPRESSIVE HEAT

We have another absolutely oppressive day of weather ahead. We have very little in the way of cloud cover around on the satellite loop this morning and that will likely stay that way through most of the day. The launching pad was set this morning with the overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s. Other than an isolated pop up thunderstorm later this afternoon into this evening this will be another rain free day. We are headed for highs in the low to mid 90s with dew points in the mid to upper 70s. This puts the heat index at ridiculous levels of 100 to 105.

This has been a rather incredible stretch of whether because of the ridiculously high dew points. With all this tropical air around you would think you would be seeing more in the way of thunderstorm activity popping up. The upper high is keeping a cap on cloud development let along thunderstorms. The atmosphere has just been too stable for any activity. We might have a shot for an isolated pop up or two today as a weak upper trough approaches but this will not amount to much and they can come and go rather quickly on the radar.

Thursday will be the last oppressive day as we do have a cold front approaching. The front will pass late in the day and dew points actually come off a bit late in the afternoon. There could be a shower or thunderstorm when the front passes but the dynamics don’t seem to be there for widespread activity or severe weather. Highs Thursday will be in the low to mid 90s again.

Friday we get a break with a northeast wind and a stalled front just to our south. This will put us in clouds and an ocean win. There will also be a few scattered showers around with highs in the 70s to near 80. We will take a look at the Labor Day weekend in detail a little later today.
