Record Warmth Shatters Numerous Records
For New York City this has been a remarkable month of record warmth. For starters, we know that this December will be the warmest on record and it will be the warmest December ever by a long mile. As of today we are averaging 51 degrees for the month which is 11 degrees above normal. Soon to be number 2 is December 2001 where the average was 44 degrees. To beat it by almost 7 degrees is remarkable. But there are other remarkable records as well that will go by the boards.
New York City Central Park has not seen 32 degrees yet. We have not seen 32 degrees for 265 days. The record is 274 set in 1998. We are 9 days away from that and it is certainly achievable. We have also been above normal every single day this month and we are likely to be above normal for all the remaining days this month though that could change late in the period.
The all time record high for December is 75 set in 1998. We have a shot to break that record on Christmas Eve. The latest 70 degree reading during the month of December is December 29th 1984 when we hit 70.
We have already set numerous record daily record highs this month. We could potentially set 3 more record highs this week beginning on Wednesday if the warm front get through. Thursday is a given that we will break a record. If the cold front holds off it is possible we could see record highs Christmas Day with leftover 60s still around after midnight. Absolutely amazing month of record warmth.
