North Carolina Florence Cataclysmic Rain 3 Feet & Counting

FLORENCE RAINS CONTINUE TODAY

FLORENCE FURTHER INLAND AND MOVING NORTWESTWARD

RAIN MOVES INTO APPALACHIANS TODAY

3 feet of rain has fallen in many areas in Eastern North Carolina and now the rain has expanded west and northward and about to head into the Central Appalachians. Florence at least is now moving northwest at 8 mph and the long process of the rains moving out of North Carolina will get underway. However it may not be until Wednesday before the rains are completely gone.

You could have looked at the radar anytime over the last 3 days and it would have looked about the same. Rain continues to fall over the same areas in North Carolina as well as parts of Eastern South Carolina.  Florence is now headed to the Appalachians. Clouds and rain are beginning to move into Western Virginia and Southern West Virginia as seen on the satellite and regional radar loop below.

Meanwhile the last weekend of summer continues for us with lots of sunshine today and temperatures in the 70s to near 80. Coastal areas will be a few degrees lower with a nice breeze from off the ocean. Weather conditions will begin to deteriorate as the day goes on Monday with arriving clouds. We could see some scattered showers to the west of NYC & PHL late Monday afternoon and early evening. Florence at this stage will be moving northward along the Appalachians before turning northeastward across Pennsylvania to Southern New England.

There will be a couple of bands of heavy downpours moving through late Monday night into Tuesday morning with some thunderstorms possible. Then as the remnant low of Florence moves through and it will be fast weather conditions could start to improve from west to east later Tuesday afternoon and evening. Temperatures will reach into the 80s before a weather front moves through. Dry air comes back Wednesday and Thursday with some sunshine with highs in the 70s.

While Florence is ravaging North Carolina Tropical Storm Helene is racing for Ireland with wind and gales forecast to arrive Monday morning Shannon time. Helene will gradually merge with a storm in the North Atlantic but it maintains an identity as a tropical system as it moves to Southwestern Ireland Monday afternoon and then impacts parts of the UK Monday night into Tuesday London time.
