Winter Storm Warnings Well Inland PA NY

We are gearin up for some rough weather tonight lasting about 8 to 10 hours. Clouds have increased as a storm develops along the North Carolina coast. Rain has moved into Southern New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania late this afternoon as we can see on the radar and that rain will be spreading northward this evening so weather conditions will be deteriorating.

We have Flood Watches up for rainfall induced flooding for the Lower Hudson Valley, and in New Jersey mostly north and northwest of the New Jersey Turnpike. Wind Advisories are up for the coastal areas of Southeastern NY including Long Island and Coastal Connecticut. Rainfall amounts of up to a couple of inches are possible. Coastal Flood Warnings are up for Long Island and the waters surrounding NYC. Coastal Flood & Wind Advisories are posted for the New Jersey coastal counties. Coastal Flood Warnings are up from Cape May south to the Delaware coast.

Winter Storm Warnings are posted for most of North and Northeast Pennsylvania northeastward into Southern & Central New York to the Catskills and north to the Poconos with Winter Weather Advisories flanking the warning area. Snow of 6 to 12 inches are possible in the warning areas mainly above 1500-2000 feet. Some of the highest elevations above 3000 feet could see a foot plus. Advisories for a few inches extend south into West Virginia!

Tonight as low pressure develops and moves quickly northward it will strengthen thanks to a strong upper trough in the Great Lakes that is closing off. The low will coast hug all the way up and then head up NY state east of the Hudson River.

Both loops start at 5pm tonight and last through 5pm Tuesday in two hour increments. You can see a large area of yellow echoes indicating heavy rain while the darker blue area is heavy snow. It all happens fast with the low racing northward. The gradient tightens considerably and this will create winds gusting to 40 to 50 mph along the immediate coast where wind advisories and gale warnings are posted.

For eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England it is mostly done by daybreak Tuesday. Leftover clouds will remain for the rest of Tuesday with some sun coming into the mix. Temperatures tonight will fall through the 40s along the coast and in the 30s well inland where we have snow risks. Temperatures Tuesday will be in the 40s to around or just over 50. Wednesday should be a nicer day with some sunshine and the the next front arrives for Thursday though that front looks like it won’t have much with it.
