Nice Weather Day But Issues Lie Ahead Friday through Mother’s Day
We are finally managing to squeeze in a nice day of weather in the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic states. We are seeing some patchy clouds around but we are also see large breaks of clear skies so this bodes well for today. Sunshine should take highs up into the 60s with no issues. The radars are quiet. Even the sea breeze will be kept at bay except for right along the immediate shore. Enjoy because we have weather issues to deal starting later Friday and lasting right through the weekend and even into Monday of next week.

We should see clear skies mixed with a few clouds tonight with most lows in the 40s. Then on to Friday where low pressure begins to develop off the North Carolina coast and a slow moving upper trough drops southeast from the Great Lakes. We may wind up being dry for much of the day Friday but clouds will increase rather quickly during the day. Most highs will be in the 60s. By evening showers will be lining up in a north south band from Central New York southward into Eastern Pennsylvania and extending from there to Eastern Virginia!
You can see the rather odd way the rainfall totals line up with a band of half inch plus amounts in Eastern Pennsylvania with lesser amounts on either side to the east and to the west. That band will likely sit to the west of the coast right into Saturday morning before weakening.
I will just describe Saturday as a day of lots of clouds with maybe a few breaks of sun and the risk for scattered showers. Risk means the chance is there but you can wind up missing them since they should be scattered. Highs will only be in the 50s to near 60. Mother’s Day Sunday sees the next low headed our way with increasing clouds and rain developing Sunday afternoon from west to east and lasting into Monday morning. Highs will be into the 60s before the rain arrives. At least Sunday morning should be dry. Next week once this Sunday system clears out to the east could be dry for a few days but it will also be unusually cool for this time of year with temperatures running 5 to 10 degrees below average.
