Nice Sunshine With Slowly Rising Temperatures Heatwave Begins Monday
The weekend is here and it started cool this morning with lows in the 50s to lower 60s in many areas. We continue to have dew points that are somewhat subdued so while it is not picture perfect comfortable, it is still somewhat reasonable by August dog day standards. Satellite and radar conditions are quiet. We can see from the satellite loop that low pressure is developing offshore and moving away to the northeast. This leaves us in a mostly sunny place today with temperatures that will be topping out mostly in the lower 80s inland and 70s at the coast. We are still dealing with winds coming in from off the ocean so that is holding temperatures down at least for now.

We are going to be seeing changes however as high pressure along the coast repositions itself which means the onshore flow basically goes away over the next couple of days and a warmer more humid south to southwest flow replaces it. That means temperatures will be going up and humidity levels will also be on the rise though it will be in stair step fashion and not all at once.
The set up will mean little to no rain in the forecast until perhaps Wednesday when a front and weak trough attempt to move through. This is the first chance for showers and thunderstorms. Ahead of it we will see another short 3 or 4 day heat wave with temperatures that will be reaching into the 90s and dew points climbing into the upper 60s and lower 70s by midweek.
Winds turn more southerly Sunday and we will once again have a day that will be no worse than partly sunny if not mostly sunny. Highs Sunday afternoon will reach the mid to upper 80s while temperatures along the coast will remain reasonable in the 70s to near 80 with winds off the ocean. Monday we will see winds turn more southwest and it will be the first day of temperatures above 90 degrees in many locations.
Tuesday and Wednesday look to be the hottest days of the week and the most humid especially Wednesday as this upper trough/frontal boundary approach. Tuesday and Wednesday highs will be in a range of 90 to 95 degrees with local sea breezes keeping the shore a bit cooler. Wednesday afternoon we could see the risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures could slightly ease late next week but we could still be in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees for Thursday and Friday.
