Nice Sunny Monday Temperatures Close to 70 Fire Risk Next 2 Days

The system that stands out this morning on the satellite picture is on the upper right. A storm sits south of Nova Scotia and it has been there all weekend. Not much movement is expected today except for perhaps a slow southward drift. Clouds have reached Southeastern New England but they should stay to the east today and Tuesday.

We are going to have a nice sunny day across the region and temperatures are going to respond by climbing to the upper 60s and some warm spots could reach 70 or so. The winds today will be from the north at 20 to 30 mph at times in gusts. There will be no sea breeze issue today thanks to that storm to the east however there is one issue to consider.

Relative humidity levels will be under 30% and in some cases could approach 20% or even less. Conditions in some areas are very dry particularly in pine barrens so remember to be cautious with flammable materials. Coupled with gusty winds, this could increase the risk for brush fires.

Weak disturbances will be moving southeast from the Great Lakes tonight and Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Each one will produce clouds and there is the chance for a scattered shower mostly in areas south of NYC. Otherwise we should see a good deal of sunshine Tuesday with similar wind and humidity conditions. Highs Tuesday will be in the 60s to near 70. Wednesday look for clouds and some sunshine with highs in the 60s. The flow turns more onshore Thursday but there should still be some sunshine. Highs will be in the 60s inland and the 50s along the coast.

The blocky pattern to the east weakens weather systems as they move eastward. We will see low pressure come out of the Plains but it takes 3 days for it to move several hundred miles. The cold front with it will take its time. We will throw in the chance for some scattered showers Friday and Saturday as the front tries to make its way eastward. We don’t see continuous rain or a washout by any means though clouds could be an issue Friday through the weekend. No major storms nor do we see any severe weather threats for our area over the next 7 days.
