Nice Sunday 40s Rain Snow Shower Chance

Arctic Front Arrives Tuesday Night Bitter Cold Follows

We are going to enjoy a nice mild Sunday with sunshine to start though we have a weather front coming thought and there are some snow showers with that front. It will pass late this afternoon with not much fanfare. There could be a few snow showers well north and west of the coast and a passing rain shower in warmer areas. Temperatures rose overnight and we will reach the 40s in most locations today and some spots in South Jersey and Southeast PA could near 40.

Satellite loops show clouds with snow showers moving across Central and Northern Pennsylvania. Cold front related snow showers on the western edge of this area as well. They will move along and then gradually weaken late this afternoon and evening. We could see a few snow showers in Northwest New Jersey northeast into Orange and Sullivan Counties as well as points northward.

The front goes by and skies should clear tonight. Monday looks good with sunshine and highs mostly in the 30s. Then the arctic front approaches Tuesday with arriving clouds. Rain showers will develop later in the day and then change over to snow as the front goes by. I really don’t see too much of a chance for complications with this. Inland areas from NYC west will see snow with enough for an accumulation of a coating to a few inches..higher amounts as you head further west into Pennsylvania especially west of 81 and north of Route 76. In the Hudson Valley & Connecticut it will likely be mostly rain from this with a change to snow at the end with little consequence. I put up my first call snow map yesterday and I’m not changing anything for now. These numbers could easily be cut and half but and given the winter so far they likely will be cut in half. Temperatures Tuesday will reach the 40s and then drop into the 20s and lower 30s Tuesday night.

Once the arctic front passes cold air and wind will be the story here with temperatures settling in the 20s Wednesday and then dropping into the single digits Thursday morning. Thursday will be bitter cold with sunshine and highs into the teens and then down to single digits to near 10 Friday morning. Temperatures should start to recover on Friday back into the 20s.

The extent of the cold covers the Northern Plains to the Ohio Valley and the Northeast but whenever you get large dumps of cold air you usually see the pattern reflexively bounce once the cold air pulls out and we will likely see that going into next weekend and beyond.
