Nice Day Dry Through Thursday Rain Friday Weekend Clouds Issues

We are getting closer to the holiday weekend and there are still some questions especially for Saturday where clouds and showers may be an issue. We will get to that in a moment. We are enjoying mostly nice weather today. Dry air from New England is keeping things mostly sunny from NYC north and east while south and west we do have some patchy high clouds in the mix. No rain is anywhere close by as it continues to be pinned well to the west and south of us around a strong upper low stalled out in Tennessee. Highs this afternoon will be in the 60s except 50s along the immediate coast. Enjoy the sunshine while we have it.

Skies should be mainly clear tonight in most areas though some high clouds will be around again in areas south of NYC. Most lows will be in the mid  tor upper 40s though where it is clear and winds are light inland, temperatures could bottom in the mid to upper 30s. Winds are not as much of an issue today though it is a little breezy along the coast.

Thursday starts with sunshine but clouds will start to move northward during the afternoon and it could go overcast over Southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. The upper low to the west will be weakening and the high to the north gives way. The rain you see on the regional radar from North Carolina and Western Virginia westward will start move northward. Highs Thursday north and east of NYC will reach 70 inland with mid to upper 60s elsewhere. Lower highs will occur as you head south toward Maryland and Southern New Jersey thanks to more clouds and an ocean wind.

Clouds will be around Friday and the leftover rain from the upper low and weak surface low pressure will bring an area of showers northward. Showers will occur during the afternoon and evening. Highs will be in the 60s though low 70s will occur in areas to the south. Then it is on to the weekend. Low pressure will be offshore Saturday morning and hanging around. This will keep clouds around and there could be some scattered showers from NYC north and east. South and west of NYC & Philadelphia we could see some breaks of sunshine developing. Temperatures will be in the 60s north and east of NYC and upper 60s to mid 70s to the south.

Sunday and Monday we will be cautiously optimistic and go for a mix of sun and clouds for both days with no rain in the forecast. Highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s on Sunday with cooler temperatures along the shore.

Monday Memorial Day we should see highs reaching a little higher as we head into the low to mid 70s. Temperatures will be cooler along the shore. Usually the Memorial Day weekend is the one summer weekend that has issues. It looks like Sunday and Monday will be the better days vs Saturday. No wash out is in the offing and that is a good thing.

Next week an upper high will be building into the Eastern US and that should bring warmer temperatures and not much in the way of rain for most of next week. It will be a positive finish to the month of May which has taken us from record cold and snow to freezes to severe weather to something closer to normal for mid to late spring.
