More Gloom & Doom Showery Rains Into Early Friday

A Warmer Weekend Ahead

We are stuck between 2 frontal boundaries. One to the south across Maryland and Virginia and to the north of that front we have an area of rain moving west to east. Satellite loops show moisture going back all way to Indiana and Illinois will march west to east. To the north we have another frontal boundary and that is the leading edge of colder air from Eastern Canada and that cold air will bleed southward later today into tonight. The result is rain for Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England today and tonight. Areas to the north, mainly to the north of Interstate 84 in New York and Connecticut, we have Winter Weather Advisories in effect for rain to change to sleet and freezing rain late today and tonight. Temperatures today are going to struggle. Where it is raining temperatures will be mostly in the low to mid 40s for highs. South Jersey and points south could see some higher temperatures but I would not be surprised if those numbers fall short of the projected highs.

Rain will continue on and off tonight with the rain coming to an end from west to east around daybreak Friday morning. Lows tonight will be in the 30s with lower 30s in areas where we have advisories posted. Friday looks like a day of gloom and doom type cloud cover with the onshore flow keeping clouds locked in and temperatures Friday will likely be struggling in the 40s all day long.

Over the weekend clearing skies will be a very tough sell especially Saturday. Winds off the ocean continue though they will be turning more southerly. That at least should allow temperatures to climb up into the 50s with cooler readings along the coast. We do not expect to see any rain during the day Saturday. Some areas in South Jersey could see temperatures break above 60.

A cold front is going to approach Saturday night and we expect to see the showers with this front mostly dry up as the front reaches the coast. The issue for Sunday is that the front could stall for a short period as a wave develops on it in Virginia and heads northeast. This likely keeps the area in clouds all day and there could be a bit of rain later Sunday into Sunday night. With a more favorable wind direction we could see highs reach into the 60s even though we will have clouds around and the risk for late day rain. Finally on Monday sky conditions should improve with the sun coming back. Temperatures should at least reach the 60s.
