More Clouds Around Today Severe Weather Risk Friday Cooler Over the Weekend

A bit of a different day setting up as we have more clouds around. This is due to an upper low back to the west in Arkansas that is lifting tropical moisture northward up the coast. Embedded in that is the remnant low of Tropical Storm Bertha which came ashore yesterday in South Carolina. That remnant low is in Ohio this morning and taking rain to our west. However there are some scattered showers extending east into Virginia and we can’t rule out a passing shower today though for most it will probably not be an issue. Tomorrow Friday we see a chance for showers and thunderstorms late in the day into Friday night as a cold front arrives and the Storm Prediction Center has raised the risk level for severe weather from Northwestern New England southward to Virginia.

The satellite shows lots of cloud cover around today and it is not of the low variety that burns off but a higher and thicker layer above. You can see the scattered showers from a tail band of the remnant low of Bertha lifting northward across Maryland and Virginia. Most of this should fall apart and it remains widely scattered.

With the extra cloud cover today temperatures will likely remain in the 70s and the humidity has gone up considerably. That will keep things warm tonight with most lows in the 60s. Friday will be very warm and humid with some sunshine and a southwest wind. Highs will reach the upper 70s to mid 80s. Then we will see some showers and thunderstorms around late in the day into Friday night.

The weekend promises improvement though we still have an upper trough on Saturday that will be moving through. This will produce a mix of sun and clouds. There is the outside chance for a passing shower or thunderstorm. Highs Saturday will be in the 70s to near 80. Then as a cool high moves southeast from Canada it sets us up for a couple of cool sunny days.

Sunday we will see highs just in the upper 60s and lower 70s. It will be even cooler on Monday with sunshine. Highs will be just in the 60s. Next week we see it starting off cool and then warming up a bit to seasonal temperatures but nothing to extreme as June gets underway.
