Miserable Raw Rain Ends Tonight Very Slow Improvement Going Forward

About the best thing we can say about this miserable weather of ours is that as each hour goes by brings us one hour closer to the end of all this. There is light at the end of this raw cold wet tunnel as low pressure is off the Delaware coast this evening and will be heading slowly but surely to the northeast. On the surface plot we have temperatures in the low and mid 40s over our area with a raw wind from the northeast. The Southeast US got a nice relatively dry day out of this some someone always benefits from someone else’s misery in the world of weather.

REGIONAL RADAR

Radar at least is showing the western and back edge of the rain in a northwest southeast line from Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New Jersey and the area is lifting up to the northeast. We have a few more hours of rain to get through but it should be coming to an end from west to east tonight as low pressure starts to pull away. Temperatures will go nowhere tonight and hold mostly in the 40 to 45 degree range with some upper 30s in cold spots north and west of the coast.

It begins to improve SLOWLY on Tuesday with lots of clouds still around. There is an upper air disturbance that will be slowly swinging through and that could trigger off a few scattered afternoon and evening showers on Tuesday. Highs will reach into the 50s which at least is an improvement from today.

There will be one more upper air disturbance coming through Wednesday night with the chance for showers before we finally settle into to some genuine improvement on Thursday. Clouds will give way to sunshine with highs in the 60s.

GOOD NEWS FOR FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND

Miserable Raw Rain Ends Tonight Very Slow Improvement Going Forward

We noted earlier today that both major models, the GFS & the European both showed nice weekends but one had it cool (European) and the other warm (GFS). Today’s model runs seem to have lined up to the warmer idea with a ridge building in the Eastern US and building strongly. If this is the case you can expect some sunshine for Friday with highs back into the 70s away from the ocean. The weekend will be dry warm with some sunshine. Highs will be in the 70s on Saturday and we could be in the 80s on Sunday if this verifies. It would be a nice payback from what we are seeing now. Let us wait another day or two to lock in on this idea but it does seem promising that we get a break for a day or two from the recent blocking pattern and onshore flow.
