Memorial Day Weekend Weather
Not Always The Best Outlook
Memorial Day weekend weather is not always the best and I have always said that of the three holiday weekends, this is the one where there is the best chance of something going wrong for at least 1 of the 3 days. The problem is that it comes too early! The weather at the end of May can be great but it can also be problematic if, among other things, you get into a long duration onshore flow which is not uncommon this time of year. Also there is the issue of temperatures which while they can be warm or even hot, it is more than likely not to be. As for a day at the beach, if it is your thing to head into a 50 to 55 degree ocean, then by all means enjoy. I for one am not a fan of having that feeling of knives cutting through me.
Nonetheless the first summer holiday weekend is almost here as it comes week after next and of course at this point the questions will begin to come up about this place or that place etc etc. Here is what we can see from this 10-13 day vantage point.
Memorial Day Weekend Weather
Saturday Night May 28
First off it is very difficult this time of year to string 3 or 4 days in a row without some sort of cold front or one threat for showers. Right now it would seem to time out for late Saturday May 28 with this cold front.

Monday Memorial Day Jet Stream
The upper flow going into later next week and for the holiday weekend would suggest a warmer than normal look to things in the East and Northeast with a nice little ridge that pops up and a rather gentle westerly flow across Southern Canada bringing fronts through from time to time. It seems that once we are done with whatever happens with the second coastal low later next week, we could be in fairly good shape for the Memorial Day Weekend Weather outllook. However clearly at this stage we are still a long way out so bear that in mind. Im not saying anything specific at this point. We should also note that there has been a tendency this month for onshore flows to develop as higher pressures seem to be continually building to our north. We can’t rule out the possibility that more of an onshore flow develops which would change this outlook.
For reference and help in planning your weekend the National Weather Service issues Surf Zone forecasts which will begin late next week so this may come in handy if you want to check out other areas around the nation.
