Memorial Day Weekend Saturday Changeable Skies Some Showers

Sunday Monday Look Much Better

The Memorial Day holiday weekend is here and it starts with getaway day Friday though for most of us there isn’t going to be much of a getaway. We are seeing clouds increasing from the south though it remains sunny throughout much of New England. Low pressure in the upper atmosphere over Tennessee is weakening and moving northeastward. This is bringing whatever is left of heavy rains that fell in the Southern Mid Atlantic and Ohio Valley over the last few days northward.

All that is left really is just an arm of clouds and showers which show up quite well on the satellite picture as well as the regional radar loop. Those showers will move slowly northward. They are limited in scope and coverage. Look for some showers now in Southeast Pennsylvania and New Jersey to reach NYC and near by this evening and into tonight. However don’t expect a lot of rain from this. Temperatures have reached their highs for the day in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Temperatures will be holding in the 50s to near 60 tonight. Low pressure is going to develop along the New Jersey shore Saturday morning. This is going to set up some rain for part of Saturday mainly from NYC north and east. There could be a few showers south of NYC Saturday morning but they should disappear rather quickly.

This might allow for some improving weather conditions Saturday from Southern New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania southward while clouds will be stubborn northward to Southern New England. Highs will be in the 60s where clouds hang on but where weather improves we could see highs reach the 70s.

On Sunday low pressure will be offshore with a weak high building around it. This should allow for some sunshine for Sunday. Let’s describe it as no worse than partly sunny. Most highs will be in the mid 60s to lower 70s though it will be cooler along the immediate coast and at the shore.

Monday Memorial Day looks the be the best day of the three day weekend with sunshine. Highs will reach the low and middle 70s with cooler 60s right along the immediate coast. Next week sets up to be a warm one as an upper high builds into the Eastern US and holds on for much of the week. This will allow temperatures to go above normal next week.

Highs will likely reach the 80s Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with some sunshine each and not much if any shower activity until late next week when we could see a cold front arrive late Friday or next Saturday. May will be going out on a warm note for sure.
