Memorial Day Holiday Weekend for Long Island Looking Dry and

Mostly Nice Through Monday

Friday’s before a holiday weekend are considered getaway day and it will a day where weather will not get in the way if your traveling. A dry cool high covers the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states and we will see lots of sunshine today. A northerly to northeast wind will keep most highs today in the lower 70s with the exception of the East End where where highs wlll be in the mid to upper 60s. There are no issues to worry about on the radar as we have dry air over head that should carry us right through the Memorial Day weekend.

Low pressure develops today off the Southeast US coast and heads northwestward with rain and some wind into South Carolina tonight and then a further north into North Carolina on Saturday. Normally this might be an issue for our weather as it moves northward however it is hitting agains the large high across the Northeast and that forces any advancing rain to come to a grinding halt across Virginia to the Delmarva Peninsula.

About the only thing that we have to worry about this weekend is whether any high clouds from the Southeast US coast low makes it northward. That is not going to be an issue today. We could see high clouds at times mixing in with sun at times but much of the time this weekend will be no worse than partly sunny and sometimes it will be mostly sunny.

While sky conditions will be nice much of the time through Monday temperatures will not be screaming summer time. Winds over the weekend will be from the south both Saturday and Sunday off the ocean where water temperatures are hovering near ir just under 60 degrees. So highs both Saturday and Sunday on Long Island will reach into the 70s away from the south shore and the East End highs will be in the 60s.

Monday Memorial Day will likely be the warmest of the three days with partly sunny skies. Highs Monday will reach 80 inland and north of the Long Island expressway while it will be about 10 degrees cooler along the immediate south shore and mid to upper 60s on the East End. Enjoy your holiday weekend.
