One nice thing about this time of year is that the strengthening sun and lengthening daylight make the days warmer in between air masses. It also means more weather systems moving through and we have such a system this morning. We are seeing a line of showers on the radar this morning approaching from the west. It is a very narrow line indeed as a weak cold front moves through this morning. You can see on the satellite loop it basically looks like a stick of moisture. Once the cold front comes through, the showers should be done by a lunch time or shortly afterward and then we will see leftover clouds with some breaks of sunshine for the afternoon.

The shower activity on the radar is a little more robust to the north where all the energy is. The air behind the front is a little cooler but not cold by any means. Highs today will be in the 50s. Tonight’s lows will be in the 30s to near 40.

The next weather system begins its approach on Tuesday so we will see some sun early with arriving clouds. Rain will be developing across the area from west to east Tuesday evening and lasting into Wednesday morning. This is a stronger front coming through and it should produce some rainfall amounts of 1/2 inch to 1 inch. That front goes by and weather conditions will improve Wednesday afternoon.
With regards to the longer term, two weather systems are in play. One for later Friday and one for later Sunday. Thursday and Friday will be colder with temperatures probably not out of the 30s for highs. Low pressure develops along the southeast US coast. Models are centering on the idea of an offshore track though the GFS suddenly makes it a little closer call especially for Southern New Jersey and points southward. There is a question of how much room there is going to be in the atmosphere. The European model which had up until yesterday been shifting northward, remains further south on its overnight run. For now we will leave things as as and call for clouds Friday and Saturday with a watchful eye southward.

There is a second system behind this for later Sunday which has my attention. Even though the GFS at this point doesn’t show much, there is room for something to happen should it set up a certain way so we will keep an eye on thing regarding later Sunday. Neither system at this point appears to be anything major to deal with. There are too many weather systems running around which has been a forecast problem for months. This has made timing and forecasting strength very difficult indeed.
