Major Storm Moves Northeast Winds Subside Tonight Weather Improves Tuesday

It was quite a day with strong winds, heavy rains, some thunderstorms, a tornado watch, and winds that in a few places exceeded hurricane force. Island Beach State Park in New Jersey reported a wind gust to 82 mph. Wind gusts along the coast reached the 60 mph+ range for a few hours. Rainfall came down hard as thunderstorms rolled through. However things are improving now that a cold front has passed. While it is still on the windy side this evening winds have dropped well off their earlier highs. Most of the High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories have been cancelled as well as the Tornado Watch from earlier.

Regional radar shows the back edge of showers and some thunderstorms moving northeastward. New England still has some nasty weather to get through but we are already seeing improvement to the west and south and that continues overnight.

Skies should partially clear tonight and some areas could go mostly clear. Lows Tuesday morning will be in the low to mid 40s. Today’s cold front is going stall across the Southeast US and it looks like a weak wave of low pressure will be moving along the front. So while we may start with some sunshine on Tuesday clouds will increase. Highs will be in the 50s and yes there will be much less in the way of wind.

It looks like this wave will pass south and east of NYC and some rain could make it up into Southern New Jersey and Delaware. Perhaps it pushes up a little further north for a brief time but this low will go offshore and be of little consequence. Wednesday we will see clouds around with highs in the 40s to around 50. There is another weak cold front that will pass through Wednesday night with little consequence. Thursday looks we will see some sunshine but it will be chilly. Highs will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Another weather system approaches on Friday with arriving clouds and a cold rain developing later in the day. Highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s.
