Even the most miserable weather pattern (and the one this week was rather miserable) changes eventually. The seeds of the change are all there and they just have to play out to get to the promised land. That is what we are going through today and tonight. We have been stuck all week with a stalled frontal boundary from New Jersey to the Middle Mississippi Valley and waves have been moving through every day. The jet stream map above shows the last wave in the series about to move east. The satellite picture below from this afternoon illustrates the jet stream map above.

Two important things are happening. The upper low in Eastern Canada is moving east with a trough swinging around. That picks up the last short wave and kicks it to the east. The most important part of all this is the new trough in Southwest Canada that is forecast to drop into the Rockies. That gets rid off that west east flow in the jet stream from the Middle Mississippi Valley. When it is all said and done we have a completely different set up in the upper air for next week.

Now while the pattern is better it is not a perfect one. It does mean that we will be warming up every day with more consistency and we should be seeing 80s on a daily basis. If the ridge can hold on Monday might not be too bad with a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the 80s. That trough Monday night swinging through the Great Lakes will likely bring a weak front here late Monday night or early Tuesday and we could see some showers with that when it passes on Tuesday. However it will likely be one of those situations where much of the time it won’t be raining with some sunshine at times during the day.

The overall jet stream flow next week is one with a west northwest flow. This means that any weather systems that are embedded in that flow will likely be weak. We will likely see disturbances through every couple of days but the overall theme next week will be typical early summer. Temperatures will be in the 80s. Most of the daytime will feature sunshine and some clouds…and on some days there will be some scattered thunderstorms running around. We are getting to the time of year where day time highs are generally in the 80s every day..and that is where we will be. Humidity will be going up and down from day to day but it certainly beats what we have now.

At least for the weekend and into early Monday our air will be coming down from Eastern Canada which means dry nice and seasonal temperatures. Enjoy the nice weekend because after this week it is certainly well deserved.
