Long Island’s Miserable Holiday Weekend Begins Raw Rainy

The Memorial Day holiday weekend begins and it will be anything but memorable weatherwise. Clouds flew in this afternoon and so has the rain which is now overspreading Long Island and nearby areas. It is all downhill from here. Rain will fall overnight into Saturday morning heavy at times. Temperatures have settled in the 50s. A northeast wind is picking up and it will be gusty at times especially along the shore.

Low pressure is moving east from the Ohio Valley and by morning will be along the Delaware coast. This should take the first round of rain away from us Saturday morning leaving us in lots of clouds, a raw northeast wind and temperatures just in the low to mid 50s. It will be a gloom and doom day, something that the Addams family would love.

The next developing low brings a steadier rain back to Long Island Saturday and it continues for much of Sunday. The wind will turn more southeast or even south on Sunday which could allow the temperatures to inch up back to about 60 or so. At times the rain will heavy again. When it is all said and done 2 or more inches of rain will have fallen.

Monday should bring improvement with this low for Sunday moving away to the northeast as the upper trough moves offshore. Rains should end Sunday night and Monday should be a day of decreasing clouds and increasing sunshine especially in the afternoon. If the sun comes back it should all temperatures to gravitate toward 70 degrees.
