Long Island Peak Heat Humidity Today Lower Humidity Cooler Temperatures Weekend

It has been a rather tough weather week on Long Island with heat and humidity of the last few days. This will be the last day of this current stretch of hot humid weather. The satellite is showing sunshine up and down the East Coast and there is nothing to stop temperatures from reaching into the 90s away from the ocean. Some relief can be found at the area beaches where temperatures will be mostly in the 80s and there is always the 75 degree ocean to cool you off.

Clouds on the satellite to the west are with the next cold front but that front won’t get close until sometime tonight. Unless something unexpectedly pop up this afternoon we should be thunderstorm free into this evening. We will include the chance for a shower or thunderstorm tonight but the risks are going to be higher well inland to the west of Long Island where there is marginal severe weather risk. Otherwise it will be a warm humid night with lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Saturday will be very warm and it will still be humid until late in the day when a second front approaches. Sunshine with mix with some clouds in the afternoon Saturday with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Once that front passes humidity levels plummet for Sunday. No thunderstorms should occur with this front on Saturday. Dry air takes over for Saturday night and Sunday as a robust shot of dry air moves into the Northeast.

Sunday brings a day of sunshine and low humidity. Highs will be in the reasonable low 80s. Dew points will be dropping into the lower 50s making for a delightful day. We will attempt to hold on to the dry air on Monday and mostly succeed with sunshine most of the day. The humidity starts to come back Tuesday as high pressure moves offshore and we go back to a more tropical southerly flow. The extreme heat may not come back but it will still turn very warm and humid beginning later Tuesday and likely lasting for the remainder of next week.
