Long Island Looks To Be Warm Humid All Week Just Minor Thunderstorm Threats

We continue to plod along and we are now into a new week. Summer is in its peak weeks of highest average temperatures. Nothing unusual is going to happen this week on Long Island as we deal with slow moving weather systems in a northwest flow. None of them appear to be particularly strong enough to produce anything more than a scattered shower or thunderstorm from time to time. Much of the time this week it is going to be rain free. Humidity will remain stubbornly high all week along except for minor breaks like the one that came in last night and perhaps we could see some slight dew point relief on Thursday.

We have lingering low pressure in Southern New England and a trailing cold front offshore. Southern New England and Long Island will probably have more clouds than other areas to the west. We can look for another cloudy to partly sunny day. I will throw in the small chance for a pop up shower or thunderstorm but for the most part today is dry. Highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s but it will still be somewhat sticky out there with the humidity.

Tuesday is going to be the hot day this week. Hot to me is when it hits 90 or higher and with a wind coming from the west and northwest Tuesday we will have sunshine taking highs in the upper 80s to around 90 just about everywhere except maybe right on the beaches where the sea breeze will knock the temperatures down a few notches. Watch for a late day or evening thunderstorm as another one of these weak cold fronts makes an approach.

The front will get hung up near the coast on Wednesday which puts us in a cloudy to partly sunny type of day. It will be very warm and humid but temperatures should be a shade lower than Tuesday. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s and there is the chance for a scattered shower or thunderstorm.

Thursday could be the one day this week where there won’t be any risk for a shower or thunderstorm and we might get a little humidity relief two as some dry air comes down from Southeastern Canada. However it looks as if the relief will only last for a short time. Look for sunshine Thursday with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Friday the humidity comes up again and so does the chance for a late day shower or thunderstorm. Otherwise it looks to be partly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 80s. As for this coming weekend, the early view is that Saturday looks good but Sunday could bring another front and the chance for some showers.
