Long Island Enjoying Early Summer Weather This Weekend

As the ocean water temperatures slowly rise, it makes the sea breeze a little more limited. Add to that a westerly component in the wind and a ridge along the East Coast and you have the table set for some early summer weather on Long Island. We have clear skies on the satellite today and lots of sunshine across the island. We are looking at highs in the 80s inland this afternoon while the temperatures at the shore will settle back into the 60s making for a relaxing sunny afternoon.

Obviously the radars are silent and will remain so into Monday so we can simply move along with a warm clear night tonight and lows in the 60s followed by a sunny and hot day for Sunday. Away from the coast temperatures will make a run for 90 degrees in Northern Nassau and Northwest Suffolk County while 80s will be the story to the south and 70s at the beaches.

Humidity levels will be rising as we head into next week so it will become more uncomfortable over time. For now we will leave the chance for a shower or thunderstorm out of the forecast through Monday even though a weak upper trough may trigger one or two of them off but for now that chance will be confined to areas north and west of Long Island.

Tuesday’s highs will be a degree or two lower as the wind will be more south southwest. We also may have some clouds in the mix and the chance for a late shower or thunderstorm. A backdoor cold front arrives late Wednesday with a shower or thunderstorm. It will still be very warm with highs in the 80s. That front will stall out nearby Wednesday night and that could mean clouds and showers here Thursday unless the front can move far enough south to allow for dry air from the north to take over.
