Last Snows Exit Very Cold Start To Week Strong Storm Rain Wind Late Week
This very strange snow event is winding down tonight as the last of the snow exits to the east. The upper trough to the west is energizing an offshore low in similar fashion to what happened on January 28-29 but it is happening further east by 100 or so miles. It illustrates the rhyming nature of weather patterns. Now we are seeing a change for the next 10 days or so that will be a break from the primary pattern. If it lasts beyond 10 days remains to be seen. In the meantime watch for icy spots tonight. In Long Island Southern Connecticut and points east we have some steadier snow bands but they should exit after 8 or 9pm. To the west some light and spotty snows on the radar will dissipate. In South and Coastal New Jersey the last of the snow moves out this evening. Monday morning lows will be in the teens with a few single digits well inland.

WEATHER RADAR
Monday will be a very cold day with sunshine but temperatures will be going nowhere. Highs will be mostly in the 20s. Then get set for another cold night with clear skies Monday night. Tuesday morning lows will be in the teens with single digits again well inland. Tuesday look for sunshine and temperatures will start to moderate a bit in the afternoon though the moderation will be a slow one.
Wednesday the warm up accelerates as winds turn to the south and that will take highs well into the 40s to near 50. South facing shore lines will be exposed to the south wind off the ocean and that will keep temperatures there in the low and middle 40s after an initial run.
Thursday a strong southerly flow ahead of an intensifying storm moving through the Northern Ohio Valley to the Saint Lawrence Valley will send temperatures into the 60s Thursday. We are also going to see strong wind gusts later in the day as rain and some possible thunderstorms move through Thursday night. The front will go by early Friday morning followed by a wind shift to the northwest. I would not be surprised if we get to wind advisory criteria from this.
We will dry out and turn colder Friday and next weekend looks to be dry and on the cold side but nothing extreme. We will likely see a few more systems track to our west in the longer term. The January pattern lasted 6 weeks and that is about average for weather patterns. They all break down. Sometimes the break is short and then it moves back to the same pattern. Sometimes it becomes the new dominant pattern. My sense right now is that we will have one more flip back late this month and into the first part of March.
