August Dog Days Humid Downpours Thunderstorms Into This Evening

Yesterday’s frontal boundary  is hanging just offshore which has kept us from completely clearing out and it keeps is in a very humid air mass. You can see the clouds that are over us. The sun is cutting through at times heating up the somewhat unstable air. The result is we are seeing some downpours and a few thunderstorms popping out. While we are not going to see widespread severe weather it is possible that a heavier thunderstorm could develop and produce heavy rains. Not everyone will see one but they are out there so keep an eye on the radar going into this evening.

The scattered nature of the downpours are evident on the regional radar and they seem to be forming from Delaware and Maryland northeast into Connecticut. Local radars are showing the downpours scattered around. They should be around into this evening and then they will die off after sunset.

The next 2 days will be pretty much a wash rinse repeat performance of today. Look for some clouds and some patchy fog developing along coastal areas with most lows in the 60s to near 70. Thursday and Friday highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. There is the chance for scattered downpours or a thunderstorm each day and it will be a matter of luck as to whether you see one or whether you don’t.

Saturday the frontal boundary slides a little further east which might allow for more sun and a little more daytime heating. Temperatures will reach the low to mid 80s. The humidity will be high. There is the chance for a scattered downpour or a thunderstorm. Sunday it will probably be borderline hot and humid with the same downpour or storm risk with highs reaching the mid 80s to near 90. It will be cooler at the shore each day with northeast winds keeping shore temperatures a few degrees lower. However on Saturday winds will start to turn more southwest which will mean the beaches will be about the same temperature wise as inland though local sea breezes should develop.

A weakening cold front will move through Sunday night but the air behind it is about the same as the air ahead of it. The next important cold front will probably arrive late Tuesday with the best chance for thunderstorms late in the day. Monday and Tuesday highs will be in the mid 80s to near 90 and it will be very humid both days. Whether we get real relief from this front will depend on whether the front stalls or not. There is a good chance that it will which could make things problematic for later next week.
