Second Cold Front Arrives Later Today Week Ahead Weather Forecast
Today’s weather is all about the very strong upper air storm that is dropping through New England and a cold front that will be moving through the area later today. We had some dry air come in behind last night’s cold front and even drier air will come in behind this second front. Today the shower and thunderstorm threat will be to the east of NYC across Southern New England and Long Island where the Storm Prediction Center has a marginal risk of severe weather today.
We are seeing showers and thunderstorms moving southeast from Northeast NY and into Central New England. This area will miss areas south and east of NYC entirely. Look for these showers to move through Southern New England and possibly Long Island around midday to early afternoon.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
We are going to see a wide range in temperatures today for highs from the upper 70s across the Hudson Valley to Connecticut, lower 80s from Northern New Jersey to NYC & Long Island, mid to upper 80s over Southern New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania. Humidity levels will plummet a second time going into tonight as skies clear with lows by morning in 50s to near 60. Monday will be a good looking day with lots of sunshine with highs reaching the upper 70s well inland and 80 to 85 just about everywhere else.
There is nothing new regarding the weather pattern for the week ahead. It really looks like a repeat performance of last week in many respects as the jet stream lies close by but not too close. This will mean that weak weather fronts will be moving along every couple of days. We will have days that will be more humid than others, and days with temperatures well into the 80s to near 90 but nothing too excessive heat wise.
Tuesday brings the first of several upper air disturbances and weak fronts to approach. We will have highs Tuesday in the 80s with warm spots close to 90. There may be a chance for a shower or thunderstorm Tuesday night as the first disturbance goes by.
Wednesday we will see a mix of sun and clouds warmer and more humid conditions with highs again in the mid mid 80s to some lower 90s. There is another disturbance that could bring a shower or thunderstorm late Wednesday or Wednesday night but we don’t see widespread thunderstorm activity but scattered clusters of thunderstorms about.
The same goes for Thursday the 4th of July. It will be very warm to borderline hot and it will be somewhat humid with sunshine and clouds. Highs will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Thunderstorms will scattered around again late in the day and Thursday night. This will continue on Friday and into Saturday. Over next weekend another stronger cold front approaches later next weekend with perhaps a higher chance for more widespread activity.
